Preventive Maintenance: Interval Oil Change for car

Hi friends!

Today is the time to change my engine oil.

 I am using Liqui Moly Mos 2 10w40 semi-synthethic API SL/CF.

This is one of the best engine oil available so far in the market. The performance and robustness is at par ot beyond Mobil 1 engine oil and the likes of Royal Purple, Motul, Amsoil or M7 to name a few. 

Just to share with you the meaning of 10w40. 

10w means the oil must have a certain viscosity / flow at low temperature.The lower the "W" number the better the oil's cold temperature/cold start performance.

The 40 means that oil must fall withing certain viscosity limits at 100°. This is a fixed limit and all oils that end in 40 must achieve these limits. Once again the lower the number, the thinner the oil: a 30 oil is thinner than a 40 oil at 100°C etc.

API stands for American Petroleum Institute. It is an organization from USA that governs all the standards and methodology in the oil and gas industry worldwide.

SL means a standard in Petrol, introduce in 1998 that touches the phosphorous limit of 0.1%.

CF means intended for indirect injection engines and this governs the usage in Diesel engine.

As you can see, the previous oil was very dirty.

My rule of thumb in servicing my car:

Semi-synthetic oil: max 7000km and depends on what brand you are using

Fully-synthetic oil: 15000km and depends on what brand you are using.

For me, Liqui Moly, Mobil 1, Shell, Castrol, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Motul and others who are established in the market are good brands. Just make sure you follow the service intervals recommended by your technicians.

So kami order Keow teow with Hot Basil, Spaghetti Ala Thai dan Pad Thai dan yang paling unil sekali di sini adalah minuman yang saya order iaitu Kopi ala-ala kasut gitu.

First time saya nampak konsep ini, terus terpegun dan teruja. The coffee taste great, hehe.

A visit to Albi-Petshop for grooming Sheba

Apologies for not posting these few days as I was quite busy for a soon to launch project in Kuala Lumpur.

Ok, so today we (my wife and I) are planning to send our Persian Sheba for grooming. It's been 2 weeks since her last grooming and I am sure you guys will know how she smells.

So when we enter to the shop, I was quite amazed with another Persian cat which is displayed in the shop.

OMG. She's so cute obviously because of her color but, from my experince it is very hard to take care of her because the majority of her body color is white.

In fact, there's another Persian a.k.a Garfield inside and another Bristish Shorthair for display. Unfortunately, somebody has already booking for the White Persian.

Career Fair in UTM Skudai Malaysia.

There will be a career fair in UTM Skudai, Johor. Following are the details:

Date:        4^th & 5^th December 2013

Venue:     Dewan Sultan Iskandar, UTM Skudai, Johor.

Time:       9.00am till 6.00pm

The Details of the event

For those who are really2 in the need for jub hunting (especially fresh grads majoring in engineering), based on my experience, please consider my advice to go to UTM as there will be lots of Oil and Gas companies looking to hire fresh graduates as 2014 onwards there will be lots of energy related projects that fresh graduates can benefit from ranging from:

1. Petrochemical Industry: Petronas RAPID in Pengerang, Johor
2. Power Industry: Track 3A and 3B project, Combined Cycle Gas Turbine and Coal Fired Power Plant project, Hydroproject in Sabah, etc.
3. Oil and Gas industry: Kikeh Deepwater Project, Malikai Tension Leg Platform project Sabah Shell Petroleum, etc.

Oil and Gas players like Schlumberger, Weatherford, Baker Hughes, Shell as well as Power Companies like Malakoff, TNB, etc will definitely be there to entice fresh graduates to join their organization. 

Furthermore, please take note that UTM is the only university that has the SPIE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) Malaysian chapter organization.

Hope the fresh grads out there will make the right choice for their own career development.

Mee hoon ni memang sedap dan mengeyangkan. Tambahan pula, ade telur dadar. Jarang with a price of RM2.00 bole beli mee ngn telur dadar. Cheapr rite?

As for my lunch, roti kaya sajalah since the food here is expensive and I malakd to eat KL sentral food anymore. Bawak bekal from house is the best option for me, cuma today saya malas nk cook heavy.

Today I would like to share something that i believe will be very usefull especially for Mechanical Engineers who use to deal with Maintenance of Machineries in any Energy Plant in the world.

The book is called Mechanical Trades Pocket Manual, 4th edition by Wiley Publishing, Inc.

Basically this is one of the cheapest reference Mechanical tools available in the market that provides you a complete refrence tool:

1. Features a chapter on safety issues.

2. Discusses machinery installation, welding, rigging, carpentry, basic electricity and more.

3. Covers belts, drives, transmissions and bearings.

4. Offers tip for preventive maintenance.

This is very important for plant engineers in order to minimize downtime and prolong the lifetime of each machineries available in the plant.

5. Examines automatic sprinkler systems

6. Includes coverage of piping and pipefitting and more.

It is a good reference especially for newbies because this is a tool where you will know and learn mechanical equipments, vibrations, gears, fans, pumps, bolt, nuts regarding its usage, codes, standards, etc in order to gain a hollistic understanding of what Mechanical Engineer needs to know.
