Petrosains Festival and Google Street View Roadshow at KLCC, Kuala Lumpur.

Reporting from nikakihijau.

Today I am off from my duty as an employee in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. I decided to spend quality time with my wife by going to KLCC to for window shopping.

While walking around and visiting several stores, we were amazed to find out that Petrosains is organizing the Petrosains Festival beginning last Tuesday 22nd October 2013 until this Sunday, 27th October 2013. For the full details you can click here.

As of today, we saw the MC (Master of ceremony) is doing some experiment to a little girl. They were mentioning Nitrogen. I think it is a nitrogen liquid.

The little was in action

Okay guys my attention doesn't stop here. What amazed me more is the fact that Google is doing a roadshow promoting its Google Street View car in Malaysia. Let me elaborate further what is Google Street View.

Google Street View Powered by Chevrolet Captiva SUV
Basically Google Street View is a technology featured in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides Panoramic views from positions along many streets in the world. It was launched on May 5, 2007 in several cities in USA, and has since expanded to include cities and rural areas worldwide.

Example of the street view of Las Vegas:

Several features pertaining to Google Street view:
  • Street with Street View imaginery available are shown on Google Maps
  • Business interior views are shown as small orange circles.
  •  User-contributed panoramas are shown as small blue circles.
Coverage:

  • I personally think that the coverage in USA is superb.
  • I believe the coverage in Europe also is as good as USA.
  • As for Malaysia, since Google has collaborated with Ministry of Tourism Malaysia back in September 2011, I believe that most of our streets has been covered by Google. I wonder how on earth this car going to stroll along a narrow valley. Perhaps Google should mounted the camera on top of a scooter or superbike??
The Camera a.k.a monitoring gadget:

A nine directional camera for 360 degree views mounted on top of Chevrolet
Features:
  • 9 directional camera for 360 degree views
  • Height: about 2.5 metres
  • 1 GPS unit for positioning
  • 3 laser range scanners from Sick AG.
  • 3G/GSM/Wi-Fi antennas for scanning 3G/GSM and Wi-Fi hotspots.
  • 1 hardware cameras from Ephel for capturing high quality images.

Come and visit KLCC friends while the car is still out there for public display!
